Why?

I don't hide my religion.  I think it goes against Matt 5:14-16;  "Ye are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven"  If you've read my blog, like at all, you know I'm Mormon.  I found out that early this morning a church building in Santaquin, UT was burned by arsonists.  I grew up in Santaquin.  I lived there from the middle of first grade until the end of eighth.  I have fond memories of the church building we attended.  I was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, when I was 8, in this building.  It was the same building damaged by the arsonists.

My question is why?  I'm sure so many are asking the same question.  Why?  What does burning a house of worship, regardless of faith, accomplish?  What does it prove?  Or was it just that they were bored and it was pointless?  Was it political?  I know we've never been the most popular people but does that mean we deserve this?  Does anyone, ever, deserve to have their house of worship desecrated?  I say no.  I know so many are mourning the loss of such an important building in their lives.  I know we're all mourning our memories lost forever.  We won't be able to walk down the halls again.  We can't share them w/ our children.  I know there's a possibility it could get renovated and rededicated but it will be different.  It's lost.  It's heartbreaking.

I'm sorry to hear that this happened. It's very sad that people are that ignorant. I'm sure it was people who know nothing about the Mormon religion but think they do.
